Serhat Guven, FCAS, MAAA

Serhat Guven is a Senior Consultant at EMB in North America with over 13 years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to joining EMB he spent nine years in a variety of positions at United Services Automobile Association (USAA), where he was the technical expert on multivariate pricing, retention modeling, classification and tiering analysis, territorial ratemaking, and data management.

Serhat’s primary area of expertise is developing sophisticated predictive modeling solutions for a wide variety of insurance applications. Particular examples of Serhat’s past predictive modeling experience include:

• Multivariate modeling of the insurance risk for small and large personal and commercial lines insurers
• Territory boundary development within a multivariate framework
• Implementation of predictive modeling results through pricing, underwriting scoring, tiering and schedule rating
• Multivariate impact and competitive analysis
• Implementation of predictive modeling software for large and small insurers
• Shadow Projects (i.e. extensive training and peer review on a particular project) for both personal and commercial lines business
• Training on predictive modeling techniques and applications
• Commercial lines loss development using predictive modeling

Serhat graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics. He became a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) in 2001 and a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) in 2002.

Serhat is very active on industry and professional committees. He is currently an officer of the Southwest Actuarial Forum (SWAF) and serves on the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) predictive modeling committee.

Serhat authored the following actuarial paper "Multivariate Spatial Analysis of the Territorial Rating Variable" (CAS 2004 Discussion Paper Program) and was a co-author on "GLM asic Modeling: Avoiding Common Pitfalls" (CAS 2007 Discussion Paper Program) and has been a frequent speaker on predictive modeling topics at actuarial seminars and meetings.
