Alice Gannon, FCAS MAAA CPCU
Alice Gannon is a Senior Consultant with EMB America LLC with more than 30 years of experience in the property & casualty insurance industry. Before joining EMB America, Alice enjoyed a 31 year career at USAA serving for over 5 years as Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary and a member of the senior executive team of the USAA P&C Group helping to design and execute their total business strategy.
Alice has extensive experience in Enterprise Risk Management, in personal lines pricing including use of predictive modeling and price optimization techniques, in catastrophe exposure management including catastrophe reinsurance programs and in developing and running a center of excellence for P&C analytical data & reporting. Some examples of Alice’s past experience include:
Enterprise Risk Management: • Served on the executive team that designed and implemented a highly effective ERM process. • Experience presenting a company’s ERM process to Standard & Poor’s ERM review team.
Ratemaking:
• Responsible for pricing all P&C products for a top 10 personal lines P&C company in all 50 states and DC. • Oversaw the design and implementation of numerous new rating structures for every personal line of business. Experience using Predictive Modeling and Price Optimization techniques in rating plan design to assure the best possible rates that are both regulatory compliant and fully supportive of financial and growth & retention goals of a company.
Catastrophe Management: • Responsible for measuring and projecting a major personal property insurance company’s PML and determining its ongoing capital requirements. • Extensive use of state-of-the science catastrophe models. • Responsible for designing and implementing optimal property catastrophe reinsurance programs under a full range of market conditions. • Assisted in designing underwriting strategies for catastrophe exposure management consistent with company goals.
Analytical Data & Reporting:
• Oversaw the implementation and ongoing work of a highly efficient and effective Analytical Data & Reporting Center of Excellence for a major P&C company to assure consistent & accurate analytical data and reports used in all areas of the organization.
Alice graduated summa cum laude from Trinity University majoring in mathematics and economics. She is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, an honorary member of the Institute of Actuaries of the UK and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter.
Alice has been very active in industry and professional organizations. She is a former president of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and former Chair of the CAS Board of Directors as well as having served on numerous CAS committees. She is currently a member of the Casualty Practice Council of the American Academy of Actuaries and has served on various committees of the International Actuarial Association. For three years she was appointed as the industry actuary of the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund Advisory Council and served on the Florida Commission on Hurricane Loss Projection Methodology. She served from 2001 - 2007 as a member of the California Earthquake Authority Advisory Panel and as a member of the Highway Loss Data Institute’s Board of Directors. She also served from 1988-2006 on the Insurance Research Council Board of Directors including serving as board chair from 1998-2000. She was also appointed by Texas Governor Ann Richards to the Texas Select Committee on Rate and Policy Form Regulation serving from 1993-1994.
